Micky van de Ven: In-demand defender makes Liverpool transfer admission
The Reds are competing against Manchester City in a race to sign Van de Ven.
Micky van de Ven has admitted he could make his next transfer this summer amid Liverpool and Manchester City links.
Since joining Wolfsburg in 2021, the Dutch star has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s most promising centre-backs.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have been following Van de Ven’s situation closely, with the Dutchman being valued at around £34m.
“It’s true… I know that Liverpool followed me before,” the 22-year-old told Voetbal International. “But at the moment I don’t know anything.
“Do I think Liverpool is a nice club? Naturally!”
He added: “If a nice club comes along that has a clear plan with me, then I could consider taking a step.”
Several sources have confirmed that Liverpool are intensifying their efforts to sign Van de Ven in the coming weeks. According to Nacional, the Reds have already “defeated” Man City in the race to sign the youngster.
Wolfsburg are under no pressure to sell Van de Ven as his current deal runs until 2027. The Bundesliga side might demand significantly more than £34m if a bidding war starts between the player’s suitors.
Liverpool’s new sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, played a key role in bringing Van de Ven to Wolfsburg back when he was working for the German side. Let’s see if the pair’s excellent relationship would result in the defender’s move to Liverpool this summer.
