Yamal, a 16-year-old from Spain, will play against Croatia as the youngest-ever Euros player.

Lamine Yamal, who was chosen by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente to start the team's opening game against Croatia on Saturday, will become the youngest player to appear at a European Championship.

The Polish international Kacper Kozlowski, who participated in Euro 2020 at the age of 17 years and 246 days, will be defeated by the Barcelona winger, who is 16 years and 338 days old.

If Yamal scores in the German competition, he will surpass Johan Vonlanthen's 2004 record, which stood for the youngest goalscorer at the European Championship.

After making his Catalan giants debuted last season at the age of 15, Yamal has had an incredible breakthrough season.

When Yamal scored the nation's first goal against Georgia in September of last year during Euro 2024 qualifying, De la Fuente gave his Spain debut.

Yamal is the nation's youngest player ever. When 38-year-old Croatian captain Luka Modric made his major tournament debut in Germany during the 2006 World Cup, Yamal was not even born.

"I feel really old when I hear that kind of thing," Modric jokingly said. "Everyone will see him as the greatest danger for Spain, he's got great potential and a great career in front of him."
