The Hammers failed to complete a move for Carlos Borges.
Ajax are on the verge of hijacking West Ham’s move for Manchester City winger Carlos Borges.
West Ham reportedly had a £14m agreement in place with City, but Ajax have turned things around with a late offer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Borges will soon travel to Amsterdam for his Ajax medical. The Eredivisie giants are reportedly planning to announce the teenager as their new player later this week.
Borges joined City from Sporting Lisbon in 2014. Since then, he has established himself as a promising winger in Premier League 2, registering 55 goals and 42 assists in his 79 appearances.
West Ham are keen to bolster their squad after raising £105m from selling Declan Rice to Arsenal earlier this summer. The Hammers are reportedly in the market to sign two central midfielders, a centre back and a winger.
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse has emerged as the top target to replace Rice ahead of the next campaign. According to the Guardian, the Hammers are open to paying £25m for the set-piece specialist but Southampton demand around £40m.
Manchester United’s Scott McTominay, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, and Fulham’s João Palhinha are other players on West Ham’s transfer list this summer.
