The Reds have made their first signing of the summer by bringing in a new midfielder to strengthen their team.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is optimistic about his team's chances of strengthening their squad with high-quality signings this summer. The club recently secured their first summer acquisition, Alexis Mac Allister, in a £35 million deal. Mac Allister, an Argentine international, joins Liverpool after an impressive season with Brighton, where he played a pivotal role in helping the team secure a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.
Van Dijk expressed his admiration for Mac Allister, highlighting their previous encounters both in Liverpool's matches against Brighton and in international fixtures between the Netherlands and Argentina. The Dutch center-back believes that Mac Allister's arrival will significantly enhance Liverpool's squad and contribute to their ambitions of returning to the top of English football.
Van Dijk himself had faced Mac Allister in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, where Argentina emerged victorious against the Netherlands. Following his strong performances in the tournament, Mac Allister attracted attention from several top clubs, but Liverpool acted swiftly to secure his services.
Reflecting on the signing, Van Dijk expressed his satisfaction with the club's early business in the transfer window. He expressed hope for additional high-quality additions to the squad, emphasizing Mac Allister as one of the players capable of making a significant impact for Liverpool in the coming years.
Last season, Mac Allister featured in 35 Premier League matches for Brighton, impressing with ten goals to his name.

Liverpool completed a £35 million move for Alexis Mac Allister as their first summer signing last week. The Argentine international arrives at Anfield after spending a fantastic season at Brighton, helping the Seagulls finish sixth in the Premier League.
“He is a very good player,” Van Dijk saidon Wednesday. “Obviously, we have played against him many times [with Liverpool] and also with Holland against Argentina.
“He will definitely be a big addition and something we need in order to be back where we all want it to be.”
Van Dijk faced Mac Allister when Argentina defeated Netherlands in the World Cup quarter-finals last year. The Brighton player attracted interest from a host of elite sides after the tournament, but the Reds moved quickly to complete his signing.
“It’s a good start to the transfer window,” Van Dijk added. “Hopefully, we get a couple more quality additions and he is definitely one of the players who can make hopefully a difference for us in the next couple of years.”
Mac Allister made 35 EPL appearances for Brighton last season, scoring ten times.
