The Catalans claimed a hard-fought draw to stay in the competition.
Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on Wednesday. Ten-man Sociedad couldn’t resist Barca’s dominant display at Camp Nou.
Dembele strikes again!
Barcelona dominated the game right from the start, taking full control over the possession. The Catalans failed in their early attempts to score despite making a host of serious chances.
The guests then tried to change the course of the game with their own attacks but couldn’t get past Barca’s solid defensive line.
Things got worse for Sociedad when Brais Mendes received a straight red card for his high tackle on Sergio Busquets in the 40th minute.
As expected, Barcelona started the second half by searching for an immediate breakthrough. They found what they were looking for only seven minutes after half-time.
Following a through ball from Jules Kounde, Ousmane Dembele rushed into the box before unleashing a powerful strike toward the near post. The keeper got a finger to the ball, but that wasn’t enough to stop Barca’s opener.
The Catalans increased the pressure on Sociedad’s backline to finish off the job after Dembele’s goal. Gavi hit the bar after a brilliant cutback from the Frenchman in the 60th minute.
Sociedad spent the next half hour looking for counter-attacking chances. They finally came close to scoring just before the final whistle, but a fantastic save from Marc-Andre ter Stegen prevented the guests from coming back into the game.
