Ralf Rangnick said that Ronaldo couldn’t face Manchester City due to a hip flexor issue, but not everyone is buying it.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, and former teammate, Roy Keane, have raised doubts about the truthfulness of Ralf Rangnick’s injury claim.

Rangnick left Ronaldo out of the squadfor Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. The interim boss said CR7 was struggling with a hip flexor issue, an injury that troubled him in January.

‘It doesn’t add up to me’

But Keane, who played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United between 2003 and 2006, thinks Rangnick’s claim doesn’t ‘add up’ due to his former teammate’s impeccable physical condition.

“There seems to be [something more to it],” said the former Red Devils captain about Ronaldo’s absence on Sky Sports.

“I just don’t like it when the manager talks about this hip flexor, I don’t get it.

“We talk about Ronaldo being some sort of machine, he’s very rarely injured and then every now and again he comes out with something and says ‘hip flexor’.

“It doesn’t add up to me.”

Katia Aveiro drops a hint

According to The Athletic, Ronaldo flew back to Portugal after Rangnick’s decision – a move that ‘surprised’ his teammates.

The forward’s sister, Katia Aveiro, later added fuel to the fire by liking a post on Instagram that said Ronaldo isn’t injured; suggesting he missed the Manchester derby for different reasons.
